The Student Spotlight for November and December shines on Maria Rivera (BVS Senior Class of 2019). Maria has
been a stand-out student at BVS since ninth grade. After graduating later this year,
Maria plans to study computer engineering. Maria enjoys creative writing and drawing in
addition to her science, technology, and mathematics talents. As a result of
her hard work and effort, Maria maintains a perfect 4.0 grade point
average. Impressive! Maria will have
her choice of universities to attend next year. Her acceptance letters are already arriving.
Maria’s character and
integrity are just as impressive as her scholarship. She has a passion for
helping others and is a recognized leader among her classmates. Last month, she
launched a peer tutoring program that connects students utilizing web
collaboration tools. Maria has been cultivating this project for three years. Thanks to her leadership and vision, “Students 4 Students” is our newest innovative
club and is entirely student driven. Many thanks to Maria for making BVS a better
school for our students!
October's Student Spotlight shines on sophomore Nicolas Ramirez. In addition to being a stellar student, Nicolas devotes time to train at South Florida Tactical Athletes. His goal is to prepare for a career of service in the United States Navy. Despite his rigorous training schedule, Nicolas manages to maintain a perfect 4.0 GPA (4.7 weighted). Impressive!
This month's Student Spotlight shines on senior Reese Desaulniers. In addition to being an outstanding student, Reese is a talented dancer. Although ballet is her main focus, Reese is trained in several disciplines of dance. She has traveled around the world for performances. Reese has already been accepted to three performing arts colleges. Her dream is to be part of a professional dance company. We are certain she will accomplish her dreams. Way to go, Reese!
Olivia Martinelli (BVS 9th grader) has earned this month's Student Spotlight. Olivia is a member of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School varsity tennis team. The Lady Eagles won districts this month against their rivals St. Thomas Aquinas. The Lady Eagles move on to regional finals next. Not only is Olivia a talented athlete, she also maintains a stellar academic record. Impressive!
BVS is proud to highlight student Sifa Butcher (9th grade). Sifa has been playing tennis since the age of five. She's currently ranked 1,309 in the world by the International Tennis Federation. Sifa's goal is to be an internationally top-ranked junior before hitting the professional tour. In addition to her athletic talents, Sifa's academic performance qualified her for the Principal's Honor Roll in the first semester. Awesome!
Sifa is grateful for the opportunity to pursue her tennis career while maintaining focus on her academics. She states with enthusiasm, "Without BVS I wouldn't be able to train as much as I do and my schedule wouldn't be as flexible. I want to thank all my teachers, parents, and coaches for helping me and allowing me to be able to work towards my goal while getting a great education!"
Kudos to Sifa for being the best she can be on and off the tennis court.
